A Moderated Settlement Conference (MSC) is a confidential meeting held later in a case to help both sides work toward settlement. It is similar to mediation, but it also gives the parties the benefit of neutral feedback from an experienced family law professional. Angela brings more than 15 years of trial experience to help guide the discussion, identify practical solutions, and offer realistic insight into how a court may view the issues.

What to Expect

  • Both parties and their attorneys usually attend, along with a neutral moderator who keeps the conversation focused and productive.
  • Each side has an opportunity to explain its position, ask questions, and address the most important concerns.
  • The moderator may share neutral feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of each position and help the parties consider realistic settlement options.
  • The goal is to reach a fair agreement while avoiding the cost, stress, delay, and uncertainty of trial.

Key Features

  • Confidential – What is discussed in the MSC generally cannot be used in court if the case does not settle.
  • Voluntary – No agreement is final unless both parties choose to accept it.
  • Efficient – Many MSCs help parties narrow the issues or resolve the case in one or two sessions
